Opportunity Zone funds
Sold something for a big profit? Reinvest that profit in neighborhoods the government wants to develop and you can put off paying tax on it — stay invested 10 years and the new growth can be tax-free. Congress just made the program permanent (the new version starts January 1, 2027). But taxes you already put off under the old version come due December 31, 2026 — keep cash set aside for that bill.
Good for: Anyone who just sold something for a big profit.
