Solo 401(k) for side gigs

If you run your own business, you can save for retirement as both boss and worker. In 2026 you can put in up to $24,500 as the worker. You can add even more as the boss, up to $72,000 total. If you save $10,000 as the worker and your business adds $5,000, you saved $15,000.

Good for: People with freelance or side-gig income and no full-time employees.
