Never leave the 401(k) match

Many jobs match part of what you put in your 401(k). That is free money. If you earn $60,000 and your job matches half of the first 4%, putting in $2,400 gets you $1,200 extra from your boss. Watch out: you may have to stay a few years before the match money is really yours.

Good for: Anyone with a 401(k) and an employer match.
