Annual gifts & the lifetime exemption
In 2026 you can give anyone $19,000 a year ($38,000 per couple) with no tax paperwork. And over your lifetime you can pass on up to $15 million per person tax-free — Congress made that permanent. Some states have their own estate taxes with much lower limits, so check yours.
Good for: Families passing money to kids and grandkids.
